Child Development, Health, and Safety Basics
Aug 26 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

This training will provide participants an overview of child development, health, and safety issues for children birth through early school age. Emphasis will be on understanding patterns of development, developmental domains, and the role of nutrition in development. In addition, health and safety issues will address supporting the growth of healthy children – from the basics such as hand washing to more in-depth practices surrounding healthy procedures and disease prevention. Participants will learn more about emergency planning/preparedness and first aid as well as identify tips for     maintaining safe indoor/outdoor environments.

***Participants must take Part 2 on it’s next assigned day if taken on Mondays.

The Creative Curriculum for Preschool: Exploring the Curricular Foundation – 6th Edition
Sep 7 @ 8:30 am – Sep 14 @ 2:30 pm

Through varied experiences and individual reflection, teachers will understand the framework of The Creative      Curriculum for Preschool. We will examine the ten interest areas and explore how to make them engaging to young children. Providers will be able to use the five volumes; establish a positive social-emotional environment in their program; design effective programs; establish positive messages in the environment; develop a daily schedule that is based on their program’s needs and informed by the Objectives for Development & Learning.

*Must attend both sessions to receive your certification. In addition, please bring lunch for Part 1 and Part 2.

Impact of Lead Exposure and Mitigation Plans

Attend this lead in water workshop to understand how you can protect children from lead poisoning. Attendees will learn how providers can comply with new Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) requirements   regarding lead in water. The workshop will cover the new licensing standards, impact of lead exposure on health, how to test for lead in water, and how to create a mitigation plan.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS/SUID/AAP and Safe Sleep)

This training discusses Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS/SUID/AAP Safe Sleep), including behaviors that increase the risk of SIDS, safe sleep habits, licensing standards, and resources for further information. The successful completion of this course meets DCFS pre-service licensing requirements for home care providers. Licensed providers will also receive training hours for license renewal.

Strategies for a Healthier Living

Did you know? Obesity is estimated to cause 112,000 deaths per year in the United States.  Join us to learn more about the various risk factors associated with obesity and the things you can do to improve your health and the health of others around you. There are many factors that contribute to obesity, we want to help you focus on what you can change. Mental Health First Aid
Sep 21 @ 9:00 am – Sep 28 @ 1:00 pm

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or            experiencing a mental health crisis. Participants will learn how to apply the Mental Health First Aid action plan in a variety of situations. Classes usually consist of 30 people or less and are offered in a respectful community setting in English or Spanish. This event is sponsored by Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center in partnership with YWCA Lake County.  This classes are free of charge thanks to funds received through a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration SAMHSA Grant.

What is CCAP?

“What is CCAP?” reviews the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). The Illinois Department of Human Services Child Care Assistance Program – helps pay for child care expenses for income-eligible families who work or participate in an approved school or training or TANF approved activity. This training reviews the application processes and key features child care providers should be familiar with regarding the CCAP program. This training is Gateways Registry approved and helps meet provider training requirements to receive Child Care Assistance Program payments.
